Gulmarg is a small town in north-west Kashmir, located in the Pir Panjal range, Himalaya. Town of Gulmarg is situated about two hours drive from the Kashmirs capital city of Srinagar, where is also the nearest airport. What makes the town so special is that in 1927 the British established there one of the best and most famous ski resorts in whole Asia. Gulmarg is still India's most popular winter holiday destination, with its varied slopes that offer challenges for different levels of skiers and snowboarders.
If you fancy a change of pace, and you have already experienced the traditional ski destinations in Europe, go test your skills in the sport to India's most prestigious ski destination. The average height varies from 1400meters all the way to 4100meters from sea level. Gulmarg’s snow conditions are comparable to Taos Ski Valley in Mexico, as well as Portillo in Chile. Humidity is condensed in the mountains, which helps to keep the snow fluffy. Dry climate, with cold nights and the height of the location stabilizes the snow on the slopes quickly.
In Gulmarg you can also experience Heliskiing! Kashmir Heliski (formerly Gulmarg Heliski) opened in 2011 and it has achieved major success all over the world. In Heliskiing you will rise up to the mountains with a helicopter instead of ski-lift. This is the best way to spot out the clean and untouched slopes. e.g. Punch Peak, which is one of the highest points in Pir Panjal, rises up to 4745meters and allows more than 2000meters of "freeride".
To ensure that your trip is as successful as possible, it is imperative that you always have a local ski guide with you. A good ski guide knows the area inside-out, and will be able to guide you with the safest routes that will match your personal level of skills in the sport. This is particularly important because, unlike many other ski destinations, with ready-made routes, Gulmarg area is in some places very untouched. Also the possibility of getting lost is minimized when you are accompanied by a knowledgeable guide who knows the area. The guides are well trained to work correctly in avalanche anticipating and possible search and rescue missions.
Your trip price includes accommodation and local qualified ski guide in order to get the most out of your trip and value for your money!
